September 28, 9:07 am: Woke-up expecting a hot breakfast and coffee instead I found out that there’s no power in the whole area. “What’s going on?,” I asked my mom “There’s a huge typhoon passing by”. I want to kick myself for not listening to the news. My mobile phone beeped loudly indicating that it has low battery juice left. Great, just great.

10:34 am: Having sat in our couch, staring blankly at a wall for an hour, I decided that I should keep myself busy because power should not be back up until later tonight or so. I thought maybe I should go to Mall of Asia and catch a movie. I tried to open our window but Milenyo, as what the storm is named, hesitated and push the window back closed violently. Hmm…if only I could manage myself to get outside, dodge the falling coconuts and not be beheaded by our neighbor’s flying roof ready to slice my neck then all would be fine!

11:00 am: I decided to watch the remaining season 4 episodes of Dawson’s Creek in my laptop. Calculating the combined battery power of my Mac and my iPod, it would give me at least 9 hours of video viewing. That would get me through this horrible storm. Phone lines were dead.

2:00 pm: Every person in our house is panicking, except me, of course, I got caught up by the drama over at Capeside. I heard my dad that some ply woods from our roof top “flew”. I hope it doesn’t slice someone’s head.

7:00 pm: That was a whole lot of teenage angst and my eyes are squinting having watched most of the episodes in the small screen of my iPod. The latest software update was really awesome because of the option to turn down screen brightness. Battery life while watching videos can be stretched to 6 hours now. Thanks Apple!

7:57 pm: I feel so cut off. I decided to just read my way to sleep. Grabbed my dusty Harry Potter book from the shelf and fell asleep an hour later.

September 29, 8:05 am: Barely awake, cool wind brushed against my face. “That must be my fan and power must be on!”, I thought. Only to be disappointed as it’s just air coming from the open window.

The rest of the day: No TV, no Internet, no phones. Gadgets do not have battery anymore, what’s left to do? Read. The paper, shampoo bottles, everything. Outside my own little world, I was surprised by the damage brought by the typhoon upon city. I’ll never wish for heavy rains ever again. Or maybe just a little bit during the summer heatwave.

9:07 pm: Lying in my bed, ready to sleep when suddenly I can see the lime green paint of my room again. I bolted right up and plugged everything for charging. I checked the lights on the modem and DSL was down. Turned on the TV and there’s no cable. Uhmm…what’s the point?
